Hunters and Gatherers

I am convinced that humans lean more towards either hunting or gathering. Here's my theory:

Hunters need activity. They crave autonomy. A hunter is constantly seeking solutions, often wanting them immediately. A hunter wants to go execute and is driven to get quick results.

Gatherers need space. They crave routine. A gatherer loves thinking and often needs space to do so. The gatherer will wait to execute until they feel they are ready to do so.

Here’s a simple test to see where you fall: When you are in a meeting and you have the competence and experience to be there, how do you respond when someone asks you for a solution? Do you typically jump in and give them the best possible answer, or do you hold off and ask for more time to think?

A hunter will dive in while a gatherer will want more time.

All of this is to say that both are needed. There are times where we need to put our hunting hat on and other times where we need to be more of a gatherer. When a hunter learns to gather or a gatherer learns to hunt, that's when we are often at our best.
