Great Questions

Asking a question we know the answer to is condescending. Stop doing it. Don’t do it. You are wasting your time and that of the people you serve. We are often trained to do so, and I believe it’s a mistake. If you know the answer to something you are far better off asking for permission to share your answer than asking a question you already have an answer to.

Think about a great question. It’s almost never a question that you have an answer to. That’s the purpose of a question. Heck, I think silence is a more effective tool than asking a question you know the answer to.

Next time you have a question that you have an answer for, pause, be patient, remain grounded, and if you aren’t sure about your own answer, then fire away and ask the question. But if not, take a different path.
